COMMON HOIST PROBLEMS WE FIX

Hoists are essential mechanics’ tools. However, even the best hoists can develop faults over time, and ignoring them can lead to safety risks or complete equipment failure. Some common issues we address include:

  • Vehicle stuck on hoist – Quick response to safely lower and free vehicles while preventing further damage.
  • Safety lock failures – Ensuring locking mechanisms operate correctly to prevent accidents.
  • Hoist not lifting or lowering – Hydraulic or mechanical faults repaired to restore smooth operation.
  • Uneven or jerky movement – Correcting misalignment or worn components to ensure stable lifting.
  • Electrical faults – Resolving wiring, control, and sensor issues to keep your hoist functioning safely.
  • Oil leaks – Identifying and fixing leaks to maintain optimal hydraulic performance.
  • Unusual noises – Diagnosing and repairing the source of rattles, grinding, or clunking sounds.

WHY REGULAR VEHICLE HOIST MAINTENANCE MATTERS

Keeping your hoists in top condition isn’t just about equipment performance—it’s about protecting your workshop, your staff, and your business.

Regular maintenance helps prevent accidents and ensures your hoists operate safely, reducing workplace risks. It also keeps your equipment WorkSafe compliant and up-to-date with Australian Standards, helping you avoid fines and liability issues.

Scheduled maintenance minimises unexpected breakdowns, saving you from costly downtime and emergency car lift repair bills. By addressing minor issues early, you can extend the lifespan of your hoists and keep your workshop running efficiently for years to come.

Testimonials

Hello Tufflift, Our business is involved in Paint Protection of cars & as such we require our hoist to be utilised all day every day! Our Tufflift hoist was installed nearly 12 months ago & has not missed a beat. We are very happy that we can use our hoist to work on our cars at what ever level is required, as opposed to rolling around on the ground trying to polish.

I have a two post hoist great for maintenance but very cumbersome for storage to improve floor space in the shed. The opportunity to create a mezzanine with a (TL3.6PH-H) four post hoist has increased my parking undercover so now I can go shopping to fill the space. My wife seems to be the only one who does not support the idea!! Good value/great hoist.

Prompt delivery, easy to unpack and it was all there. I read the instructions twice, just to make sure and then put it together in a day by myself, just using basic tools and an engine lifter. Nice relaxed day. All I have to do is fit the motor and hook up the hydraulics, could not be happier.

Hoist Maintenance and Repairs FAQ'S

What Type Of Repairs Do You Handle?

We carry out fault diagnosis, mechanical repairs, hydraulic and electrical checks, routine servicing, safety lock inspections, and replacement of worn components where required.

How Often Do I Need To Maintain My Car Hoist In Australia?

Your car hoist must be professionally inspected once every 12 months, as required by law and Australian Standards (AS/NZS 2550.9). You should carry out routine automotive hoist maintenance inspections yourself every 40 hours of use, or at least once every 3 months.

What Are Signs My Hoist Needs Repairs?

Signs your hoist needs repair include visible damage (cracks, corrosion, bent parts), unusual noises (grinding, squealing), slow or jerky movements, fluid leaks, frequent breakdowns, or electrical issues.

When Should A Hoist Be Repaired Vs Replaced?

You can repair a hoist for minor issues, but you’ll need to replace it if estimated repair costs exceed 50–60% of a new hoist’s price. If parts are no longer available, it's near its 20-25 year lifespan, or if a major structural/electrical fault has arisen, it’s safer and more economical to replace the entire hoist.

How Long Do Hoist Repairs Take?

Automotive hoist repair times vary, from a few hours for minor fixes like lubrication or simple adjustments to several days for complex issues or major overhauls. It all depends on the hoist's age, type, part availability, and the technician's expertise.

Do You Only Service Hoists Purchased From Tufflift?

We primarily service hoists supplied by Tufflift, as we stock spare parts and have a full product knowledge for these models. We can also service non-Tufflift hoists depending on the brand and model. In some cases, servicing can be carried out without issue, however if replacement parts are required, sourcing parts for non-Tufflift hoists may be difficult as we do not stock these components. You can contact us or submit an online service enquiry and we’ll confirm how we can assist.

Do You Stock Spare Parts?

Yes. We stock a range of spare parts for the hoists we supply, allowing faster repairs and reduced downtime.

How Do I Book A Repair Or Service?

ou can call us on 1800 88 33 50 or submit a service enquiry form online with your hoist model, serial number and a brief description of the issue. If you don’t have all the details, that’s no problem. Our team can help you identify what’s needed and guide you through the process.
